Not really a rant, but an interesting comment on MT’s Facebook site, aimed at Mr Powell’s outfit, that a group without its original singer is a ‘tribute’ act.
Many people think that a group is redundant without its original lead singer. I suspect the following groups will beg to differ
Not only did the above carry on with a new lead singer, they were all equally or more successful. I am sure people can carry on the discussion with the likes of Journey, Santana, Marillion, Hawkwind , Pure Prairie League, Little Feat, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Poco…
PS. Thought I had better check some numbers before I mentioned that AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’, Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark side of the moon’ and Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ are amongst the top LPs in terms of sales. They appear to have sold about 50 million copies each!! This tribute act lark looks very lucrative!
More to come! Rainbow, Survivor, Ultravox, REO Speedwagon, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Man, Runrig, Marillion, Bad Company…
